How do I set up port forwarding on my Zoom X4 5551 DSL modem?

NOTE: These instructions only apply to Zoom X4 model 5551 modems. For 5551a and 5651 modems please refer to their corresponding directions.
Before continuing, you will need to know the port number(s) and the protocol(s) (such as TCP or UDP) that your service or application uses. You can usually find this documentation on the manufacturer's web site. You will also need to know the IP address of the computer you will be forwarding these ports on to.
  1. Open your web browser and go to http://10.0.0.2/ . Log in using 'admin' as the username and 'zoomadsl' as the password.
  2. Click on Advanced Setup at the top of the page. Then locate and click on the Virtual Server button.
  3. You should use the following settings:
    • 'ID' should be any unused rule ID number (such as 10).
    • 'Public Port Start' should be set to the port number at the start of the range you wish to forward.
    • 'Public Port End' should be set to the port number at the end of the range you wish to forward. If only one port is to be forwarded in the range just put the same port as entered in 'Public Port Start'.
    • Fill in 'Private Port' with the port number you will be forwarding to on your computer.
    • 'Port Type' should be set to either TCP or UDP depending on the settings provided by the program or service you will be forwarding.
    • Specify 'Host IP Address' as your computer's private IP address that you will be forwarding traffic to.
    • Click 'Add this Setting' on the right.
  4. Once you have added your rules, be sure to click on 'Write Settings to Flash and Reboot' so that the modem retains the settings if you ever turn it off. You may have to click 'Confirm' on the following screen.
