IgLou Support

Efficient Networks 5260 Ethernet (unsupported)

There are many different models of this modem all branded 5260, some work some do not. Because of this confusion we do not recommend or support this modem at this time.

This modem has been confirmed to work, and both of the below fixes are known to work WITH SOME MODELS OF THIS MODEM. Because of the number of different modems branded 5260 we can not guarantee that they all will work and this is why we do not support them. We do not reccomend you buy this modem and if you continue reading do so
AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Both the 5260 and 5262 *CAN* be configured with different VPI/VCI settings from the ones that are preprogrammed in them. On some of the older models of the 5260 you could telnet in and change it that way. But the "correct" way, according to Efficient Networks, to reconfig all 5260's and 5262's is via the EnterNet 300 software. Again, this should work with all 5260s.

Go to the Efficient website, download the 30 evaluation of the Enternet 300 software which was here last time we checked. Then go into the properties, and click on the "DSL Modem" tab. In there should be the ability to set/save the correct VPI/VCI settings.

The correct VPI/VCI setting is 8/35.

From the Enternet 300 Help file:

Enternet 300 DSL Modem Tab

The DSL Modem tab on the Profile Properties panel displays information on detected Efficient Networks modems that allows you to adjust the configuration parameters of your DSL modem connection.

The DSL Modem panel displays two different sets of options, depending upon whether you are using an Efficient Networks PCI-attached or USB-attached modem, or an Efficient Networks Ethernet-attached modem.

Ethernet Modems

The Configuration portion of the panel contains two values: Virtual Path Identifier (VPI) and Virtual Circuit Identifier (VCI). These values are factory-set and you should leave them as they are unless directed by your Service Provider to change them. The bottom portion of the panel, Modem Software, contains a button labeled Update. Your Service Provider may occasionally provide you with updates to your DSL modem software. Press Update to install this newer version of modem software.

PCI or USB Modems

The upper portion of the panel, Status, contains a five-layer test to verify the status of your modem connection. The bottom portion of the panel, Information, contains the outcome of your test. Press Auto Configure to set the Virtual Path Identifier (VPI) and Virtual Circuit Identifier (VCI) parameters for your DSL modem automatically. However, the VPI and VCI values are factory-set and you should leave them as they are unless directed by your Service Provider to change them.

Note: You must have SpeedStream DSL 3.0 (or higher release) drivers installed to see the DSL Modem tab for PCI and USB modems.

Look on the bottom of the 5260 modem for the serial number.

Serial Number Telnet? Default VPI/VCI
060-5660-001 Yes
060-5660-003 Yes 0/35
060-5262-001 No
060-5660-004 Yes 8/35
060-5262-011 No

If you don't have a Windows machine handy to use the Enternet 300 fix,
you can try to telnet in:

Set your IP to 10.0.0.2, netmask of 255.255.255.0, no gateway. Reboot.

Telnet to 10.0.0.1, you should get a command prompt that looks like:

Command->

Try the show vc command and you should get something like this:

Command-> show vc
  VPI VCI Type Mux Rate
   8 35 B1483 LLC Max
 ----------------------------------------------------------
Number of AAL Connections = 1

Note that the VPI VCI and type all need to match about to work with IgLou.
That is a VPI of 8 a VCI of 35 and a Type of B1483.

If the VPI or VCI differ use the set vc command. There are other configuration
commands available and if the Type differs you will need to figure out which
one to use to set it. Once you have finished set vc check it with show vc and
then issue the reboot command. This should save the settings.

Good luck!
