Disabling bitswapping on Zoom ADSL Modems

Note: Do not perform this procedure unless instructed to by IgLou technical support.  Disabling bitswap mode is not recommended unless it is incompatible with the remote DSLAM equipment.

To disable bitswap mode in the Zoom 5651 or 5551a modem series, use the following steps:

  1. In Windows click the Start menu, then click Run.

  2. In the open box type the word cmd and click Open. The Windows command prompt will open.

  3. In the command prompt window type the following:
    telnet 10.0.0.2    [press enter key]
    Login using the name admin and using the password zoomadsl.

  4. If you are using a modem with the model number 5551a or 5651, follow the instructions under 4a. If you are using any other model number (such as 5651-F or 5651-AF) follow the instructions under 4b.

    1. At the '$' prompt type:    (FOR 5551a AND 5651 ONLY)
      modify dsl config bitswap disable    [press enter key]
      commit    [press enter key]
      reboot    [press enter key]
    2. At the '$' prompt type:    (FOR 5651-F AND LATER MODELS)
      modify dsl config bitswap disable    [press enter key]
      modify dsl config upstreambitswap disable    [enter]
      commit    [press enter key]
      reboot    [press enter key]
  5. The new settings will be saved & the modem will restart.
